Education is a primary goal of BC Nature and we offer a number of educational opportunities. These include:

  • Local nature clubs provide programs in environmental education and nature interpretation in their communities. Several of the clubs also offer scholarships to students in their local areas. Check out the club in your area for more details.

  • Two BC Nature conferences are held each year and a quarterly BCNature magazine is published for members.

  • Members are offered a variety of field camps in interesting natural environments.

  • We are actively involved in the Regional Science Fairs and sponsor regional prizes. For more on BC’s Science Fair program, you can download a booklet with all the details (2.1 MB, pdf) or check out the BC Science Fairs website.

  • BC Nature provides a $1,000 Rene Savenye Scholarship to a post-secondary student enrolled in a program that contributes to awareness, appreciation and understanding of our natural environment. For details, click here (268 KB, pdf). To download an application form, click here.

  • Link to Robert Bateman’s Get to Know your wild neighbours www.gettoknow.ca/en/index.php This website includes information on the Contest for youth with categories in nature art, writing and photography; as well as information on the Robert Bateman interactive CD, the Speakers’ Bureau and Lesson Plans on nature.

  • Canadian Nature Network Consultation: BC Provincial Report, 2007. Describes consultations with natural history clubs (761 KB)

  • Celebration of Life of Dr. V.C. (Bert) Brink, 1912–2007.  Read a compilation of tributes to the late great Dr. Brink.
  Read profiles on People Behind the Parks in BC. Profiles on Park Builders and Pioneers were created as a BC150 project by BC Nature with assistance from the Elder’s Council for Parks in British Columbia. See the profiles, including Bert Brink and Ian McTaggart-Cowan.
