The BC Naturalists’ Foundation is a registered charity formed in 1990 by members of the Federation of BC Naturalists.  Its purpose is to build a strong capital base, the future income of which provides an increasing source of funds for conservation and nature education. The primary purpose set out in the Constitution is to promote the preservation of the natural environment for future generations through conservation, education and research projects.

What does the Foundation do? The Foundation concentrates its efforts on building and managing its endowment fund to financially support BC naturalist initiatives.  Annual grants are provided to BC Nature for the conservation and education projects of naturalist clubs (the club support grants).

How is the Foundation managed? BC Nature appoints members to the Foundation for three year terms, nominations for Directors are made from that list. The Board meets twice a year, either in person or by conference call.

What kinds of projects are funded by grants from the Foundation? Just a few of the grants approved in the recent past by a committee of representatives from both BC Nature and the Foundation include:

  • Education Programs for Friends of Semiahmoo Bay, Lillooet Naturalists.
  • Nature Events and Bioblitz for Burke Mountain Naturalists, Pender Harbour & District Wildlife Society, South Okanagan Naturalists.
  • Wildlife Viewing Areas, Interpretive Displays and Trail Improvements for Central Okanagan Naturalists,  North Okanagan Naturalists, Saltspring Trail & Nature Club, Cowichan Valley Naturalists.
