Friends of Semiahmoo Bay


Club Interests:  Friends of Semiahmoo Bay Society are a non-profit, project focused, stewardship group of volunteers who work for the conservation of the marine, estuarine and watershed ecosystems of Boundary Bay including the Fraser River delta and the south Salish Sea ecoregion. Volunteers of all ages and diverse backgrounds work together in partnership to achieve common environmental conservation, restoration and educational goals. We are currently partnered with other non-profit environmental groups, local business, First Nations and government agencies. And we have fun!

What we do: • Habitat and Community Mapping “Georgia Basin Habitat Atlas: Boundary Bay” • Community & School Environmental Outreach • Biophysical Surveys – Citizen Science • Habitat Enhancement

Our projects include:

  • The Beach Hero Marine Interpretive Program
  • Nest Box Stewardship Program & Bird Surveys
  • World Oceans Weekend Festival & other public events
  • Community Interpretive Signage and informational brochures
  • School Programs ‘Birds in Focus’, Beach Hero Marine Discovery & Wetland/Pond Discovery
  • Birds on the Bay Program
  • Shorekeepers – marine intertidal surveys
  • Eelgrass Mapping and Monitoring
  • Forage Fish Spawn Habitat Mapping & Monitoring
  • Habitat Rehabilitation Projects: Little Campbell River Forest Trail, Little Campbell River estuary, the Crescent Beach and Blackie Spit ESA, Surrey, BC; the foreshore of Semiahmoo Bay
  • Native Plant Demonstration Gardens: Dart’s Hill Garden Park, Surrey and in White Rock at the White Rock Museum & Archives on Marine Drive.
